Responsibilities
• Design rigorous domain-relevant questions using your machine learning expertise
• Review AI-generated responses for accuracy, logical consistency, and technical soundness across ML concepts such as optimization, generalization, and model behavior
• Provide feedback to help improve AI understanding of machine learning principles
• Work fully remotely with a flexible asynchronous schedule
• Contribute approximately 5 to 20 hours per week when participating in an active project
Requirements
• Doctoral student or graduate, including those currently enrolled in a PhD program or in postdoctoral positions in Machine Learning or closely related fields such as Statistics, Computer Science, or AI
• Strong background in machine learning theory, algorithmic analysis, and applied mathematics, including familiarity with optimization, probabilistic modeling, and statistical inference
• No prior AI evaluation or technical experience required

Overview
Handshake is seeking Machine Learning PhDs to support AI research through flexible hourly contract work. You will apply your machine learning expertise to evaluate AI generated content and provide feedback that helps AI systems better understand model architectures, optimization theory, statistical learning and technical problem solving. This is an ongoing project based opportunity that can be done alongside research, teaching, postdoctoral work or industry employment.
